Overnight care

What is Overnight Care?
We understand that everyone’s needs differ from one person to another which requires a bespoke approach to fulfil one’s requirements. Therefore, for some the care does not end by the end of the working day but continues, overnight.

Simply said we provide Overnight Care for those of you who need some extra help during the twilight hours. Our carers will stay with you or your loved ones at home during the night and support you with everything you need – from preparing you to bed to administrating medications and toileting.

Who is overnight care suitable for?
Overnight care is suitable for everyone who needs care and support during the night, giving you and your loved one peace of mind. For example, it could be short-term post-operation care where you or your loved one needs assistance with getting dressed, going to the bathroom, taking medication during the night or some complex activities such as changing the Stoma bag, wound management and dressing, ventilation monitoring, etc. However, it could be simply for support knowing that you are not alone during the night and someone is there for you when you need help.

The most common reasons for having overnight care are:

  • Overnight care for Dementia – dementia is a progressive degenerative brain disease affecting the brain causing memory loss, disorientation and in some cases incapability to speak. The person suffering from dementia, especially in the late stages of it could wake up during the night disoriented and feeling lost. Having an overnight carer brings peace of mind that your loved ones will be taken care of/supported, ensuring they are safe and comfortable in their own home.
  • Post-operation overnight care– usually this is short-term care supporting you or your loved one during the night. Depending on your situation you might simply need assistance to go to the toilet, dress/undress, change pressure point positioning during the night, administrate medications, complex care such as catheterisation, stoma care and wound management, or just a companion to not fill alone.
  • Mobility issues – if you or your loved ones have a broken sleep pattern and require visiting the toilet often but are experiencing mobility issues, our carers will be there for you to accompany you safely avoiding falls and any other obstacles.
  • Incontinence – with age is normal to experience problems with controlling our bladder and bowel. Consequently, the visit to the toilet is more frequent than usual. With the support of our carers, you would not need to worry about the trips to the toilet as they will help you reduce trips and falls during the early hours of the night.
  • Companionship – feeling lonely could be depressing and scary, especially during the night. With the care and support of our carers, you can have the peace of mind that you are not alone at your home and always can ask for help whenever it is needed.
  • Overnight Respite Care – sometimes families are looking for their loved ones but as every human being, they need a break. Our respite overnight care is for those of you who want to recharge during the night and have the peace of mind that your loved ones are looked after without the stress that they need to be awake during the night. Moreover, respite overnight care could be for your live-in carers too, who need their sleep too especially if you require 24/7 supervision.

Everyone has a unique situation and requirements and our goal is to provide you with a bespoke tailored care plan covering all your needs, so you feel comfortable and safe in your own home.

Types
There are three types of overnight care:

  • Waking Overnight Care – waking carer is when care comes and stays at your home during the night. The carer will stay awake the whole time monitoring your well-being to ensure you receive the whole support you need – from changing positions to relief pressure points to administering medications and toilet visits during the night.
  • Sleeping Overnight Care – sleeping care as waking care is when the carer comes and stays during the night with the main difference being that the carer sleeps and requires a bed to sleep during the night and can help you only when you request. They could be woken up to 3 times per night. Usually, this type of overnight care is for the ones who do not require regular support but it is ideal for the ones who do not want to be left alone at home during the night.
  • Respite Overnight Care – this type of overnight care is usually for live-in carers who work during the day and require breaks during the night.

We at Ivytencity Care provide only Waking Overnight Care and Respite Overnight Care. If you want to learn more about these services, please get in touch with us today.
